Erand Resonance 5 – Upsetting the Musical Apple Cart Preamble: Erand is a new player in the IEM space, and if their Resonance 5 is any indicator, they are off to an amazing start. The $180 USD Resonance 5 is the first release from this young company and features a driver complement of two dynamic drivers, dual balanced armatures, and a single micro-planar driver. The company pairs each driver with one of the five sound tubes inside each shell. They clearly put obvious care into the resulting tuning, which I believe is a solid victory of sound. Besides all this, the company employs a purposefully built five-way crossover design, which ensures that each driver operates only in its optimum range. The Resonance 5 (R5), has a balanced tuning with good extension on both ends of the frequency range. It is easy to drive, but benefits from a clean source with good power delivery.
