The #wildfire that swept through Gyeongbuk and Gyeongnam in the spring of 2025 was recorded as the worst wildfire in history, causing property damage estimated at 1 trillion won and killing over 10 people. The #wildfire was not simply a natural disaster; it shook residents' homes and the foundations of the region. This project began with the aim of following the devastation left by the wildfire and examining the warnings it issued. As a local media outlet in Incheon, we focused particularly on the wildfire vulnerability of the five West Sea Islands. These islands, including Baengnyeongdo, Daecheongdo, and Yeonpyeongdo in Ongjin County, lie at the forefront of Incheon's residential areas and are strategically important military locations. However, if a wildfire were to break out, structural vulnerabilities and limited firefighting personnel and equipment could lead to massive casualties and property damage, as well as a national security crisis. On the morning of the 6th, the village of Hahwa 1-ri, Danchon-myeon, Uiseong-gun, Gyeongbuk, was still filled with a pungent smell and blackened scorch marks. Faced with houses on the verge of collapse, residents are struggling to make ends meet, let alone return to their daily lives.
