The key word that characterizes this disorder is anxiety. The entire life of a person with GAD is a constant, chronic worry. There are five main topics that this anxiety can be about: work, relationships, health, the future, and everyday affairs. Anxiety is a mild, chronic, persistent worry with a predominantly mental component. That is, it is centered in the mind. Characteristics of the mental structure of a person with GAD These are introverts. These are people prone to self-doubt. They think that someone else knows better. They cannot rely on themselves because they understand that they know nothing and can make mistakes. They are very responsible and have a hard time saying no or refusing. Deep-seated beliefs about themselves: I know nothing, it's very easy to get confused about everything, I don't want to make mistakes; about the world: everything is very complicated, unclear, no one knows anything, and everything is very serious. Maybe only this smart person knows. In your childhood, there was someone who a. knew everything perfectly well, how YOU should do it. The right way. An authority. b. anxious or depressive, in short, pessimistic, critical. Controlling. You're used to asking questions. And you still ask them for anything, basically. You think to yourself that they're weak, small, incompetent, and have little understanding of life, while they're brilliant. (Others cope with problems better than me, others know better than me what's right and what's wrong (there's no right/wrong), I can't handle problems on my own.) You have an emotional dependence on this person, based on fear. They've tied you to them with this fear. Conditional acceptance. Insecure attachment. What skills does someone with GAD lack? Listening to their needs, resting and doing nothing (you often experience emotional burnout), doing what you want, not what you have to (living out of a sense of duty); lack of self-confidence; expressing your opinion; saying no. Because of these personality traits, a person prone to GAD constantly worries, depleting their energy during periods when their life is going well and there are no objective problems. This leads to the fact that when problems arise, they are unable to concentrate and devote all their energy to solving them, so they "slip up." Worry = avoidance of anxiety. Mental and emotional. How does a person with GAD react to objectively disturbing events: 1. Avoiding disturbing thoughts without thinking them through (cognitive avoidance) – fear of anxiety and negative thoughts. 2. The problem ultimately isn't solved because solving it requires thinking about it, and ultimately all these thoughts remain at the first, most superficial step – "what if," "what if?" But the person doesn't think beyond that. An endlessly repeating thought. 3. Due to the fear of anxiety, there is no tolerance for anxiety; a person seeks to avoid this emotion and not feel it (emotional avoidance of anxiety), a fear of anxiety. 5. Intolerance of uncertainty Why is it necessary to treat GAD? Due to constant worry, you have forgotten how to distinguish real problems from imaginary ones. Where there are no problems, you find them, and where there are, you don't notice them. Anxiety has lost its function—the signaling function—of pointing out dangers. ____________________________________________ I invite you to my second channel on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/strl If my videos were helpful to you and you'd like to thank me, you can make a donation: 1. https://donatepay.ru/don/streletskaya 2.
