Can You Skip Art Fundamentals?

Check out my Free Line and Color Quick Start Guide: https://www.thedrawingcodex.com/quick... You will learn how to develop a simple reliable process in Photoshop. You also get all the brushes and PSDs that I use in the guide (the same ones I use for most of my illustrations). I get this question a lot... I think it's a really tricky subject to answer in a short video so I made two detailed videos going over this issue in detail. This talks about the benefits of not focusing on the technical/foundation side of art too much... and instead just 'doing it'. Making art. Trying things. Finding your own way. Etc. Here is the companion video which talks about why building a foundation is awesome and important:    • Here's Why You Should Build an Art Foundation   Obviously there is no need to 'pick a side' especially considering how much technical skill building information there is out there for artists today. But some approaches to art/drawing do lead you away from their opposing influence. Keep in mind all the things I am talking about relate to drawing things like comics or illustration, or working in the entertainment industry. I'm not addressing how to become a fine artist or develop a career around still life/portraiture.... or abstract art. I think there are a lot of interesting opportunities for artists cropping up in the world right now. And to a degree people are mixing the idea of a fine artist/gallery artist with drawing cool little manga/comic (or whatever else) style images on Instagram. This is often what I am referring to when I talk about 'art influencers'. Keep in mind going down this route can make it hard to also take on professional work until you have established yourself as a big name... as your ability to deal with clients needs for their art projects is very different to developing a following online based on your personal style. But ultimately if you can make this work it's a great option long term... Happy Drawing!
