Can the FUJIFILM 16-80mm RESOLVE 40mp?

When Fujifilm released it's 40mp X-Trans sensor, the Fujifilm 16-80mm lens did not make it to the recommended list. That sensor is in the Fujifilm X-T5, X-H2 and the new X100VI and X-T50. That's quite a few cameras that it's not recommended for. However does that really matter in real life? Does this versatile lens give decent results on the Fujifilm 40mp sensors? Today I pitch it against the Fujifilm 100-400mm in a real world test. The 100-400mm is on the recommended list but is it that much better on a 40 mp sensor.
