【八幡山歩】道伯山をゆく。｜Yahata Sanpo — Mt. Dohaku, Unhurried

黒崎の街は、常に潮の香りと鉄の響きに包まれているが、その片隅に洞海湾を背負うて立つのが、道伯山――またの名を城山という。 この山の名は、黒田長政に仕えた高木道伯（清秀）に由来する。 かつて長政が筑前の国境を守るべく「六端城」を築かせた際、この黒崎の地を託されたのが、黒田二十四騎の筆頭格・井上九郎右衛門之房であった。 道伯はその之房とともに、この海を見下ろす要害の地を固め、あるいは普請に精を出したのであろう。 私はこの短急な坂を登りながら、かつて洞海湾を睨み据えていたであろう、老武士たちの眼差しを想う。 城主・道半（之房）と、その傍らで知恵を絞った道伯。 二人の宿将が語り合ったであろう言葉は、今もこの藪を抜ける風の中に溶け込んでいるのではないか。 山頂に立てば、眼下には近代工業の脈動が広がっている。 しかし、足元の土に刻まれた微かな起伏は、まぎれもなく武士たちが生きた証である。 時間の断層をひと飛びに越えて、私はこの静かな丘の上で、かつての筑前の熱量に触れたのである。 The Sentinel of Kurosaki Tucked behind the ancient groves of Okada Shrine, where the salt air meets the distant echo of steel, stands Mt. Dohaku — known also as Shiroyama, the Castle Hill. Named for Takagi Dohaku, a loyal retainer of Lord Kuroda Nagamasa, this quiet ridge was once the heart of Kurosaki Castle — one of the famed "Six Border Fortresses" built to guard the province of Chikuzen. As I climb the steep, worn path, I trace the footsteps of two old warriors: Inoue Norifusa, the steadfast castle lord, and Dohaku, the tactician at his side. What did they speak of, gazing out over Dokai Bay? Their words may be lost — but the wind through the bamboo thicket still carries something of their weight. From the summit, the pulse of modern industry stretches below. Yet beneath my feet, the subtle contours of the earth bear the quiet imprint of those who lived and fought here.
