We'd already scheduled this tour four times, and always had to cancel due to bad weather. Now it finally worked out, even though not all OVOT - Old Veterans on Tour - were able to participate. The weather didn't look as good as the forecast had predicted. But the clouds we encountered at the start cleared over the course of the day, and it turned into a fantastic day of hiking. What did surprise us, though, was... but you can see that in the video. Enjoy! Info from the Baiersbronn website: The Forces of Nature Tour is a circular hike through the Bösellbachtal and Gutellbachtal valleys and to Lake Ellbach in Mitteltal. The elemental power of storms and floods is impressively demonstrated along the route. Along both river courses, there are plenty of opportunities to cool off in the water, even on hot summer days. The trail leads through Ellbachstraße and over the Murg Bridge up to the Breitmiss. Enjoy the beautiful view of the Ellbach Valley. You will soon reach the particularly scenic Bösellbach Valley with the Ellbach Fountain and the arched bridge, which was built in 1871. From there, the trail leads steadily uphill along the impressive cascades of the Bösel Ellbach Stream. The Bösellbach stream got its name from the numerous floods it repeatedly caused great damage to the residents of Mitteltal. Over time, however, they terraced the Bösellbach stream to contain the constant flooding. Today, this is particularly beautiful to see. Passing the Jakobsbrunnen fountain, you finally reach the Bösellbach Hut and the mysterious Sauerbrunnen spring. This spring is so yellow because it is a sulfur spring. The trail continues uphill. Soon you reach the highest point of the tour. Here, a canopy lounger with a fantastic view invites you to linger in good weather. Past the Plon site, the trail descends to the Oberes Gewölbe (Upper Vault). Here, the path branches off to the right and leads to a hidden waterfall. The Rosshimmel Waterfall flows over the cirque wall of a silted-up cirque lake and has a very variable water flow. Depending on the amount of rain in the previous days, the waterfall can be thunderous or just a gentle trickle. Leaving the basin of the silted-up cirque lake, the trail climbs briefly again. After a few hundred meters, you finally reach the idyllically situated Ellbachsee. Enjoy a long rest on the lakeshore here. Ellbachsee is one of the few cirque lakes still filled with water. See the author's tip here. The hike leads through the Gutellbachtal valley back towards Mitteltal. In the Gutellbach stream, you can still see the devastating power with which Hurricane Lothar raged here, among other places, in 1999. A little later, you'll see the mighty Ellbach fir, which has withstood this natural force. Passing fountains and springs, you'll finally reach the Gute Ellbach stream. Here, you'll need to cross the stream once on large stepping stones. The path leads along the stream to the red deer enclosure and the confluence of the Gute and Böse Ellbach streams. Following the Ellbach, you'll eventually return to the starting point of the hike. The path offers interesting information via panels on the "Quellen und Parzellen" adventure trail.
