Project Kermit: Land Rover Series Gearbox Rebuild Part 1
During the full build phase of Project Kermit, with everything else going on, I just cleaned up the best looking gearbox from my collection, chucked it in and hoped for the best. Now it's time to return and do the job properly! The plan is to find a 'suffix D' box - the final version of the type and strip and rebuild with all new components where required. I've never rebuild or even dismantled a gearbox before but I'm hopeful that with care and a good example to follow I'll get a good result. That good example comes from the @steamwally channel, specifically these videos: • Land Rover Series 3 Gearbox Overhaul - Part 1 • Land Rover Series 3 Gearbox Overhaul - Part 2 • Land Rover Series 3 Gearbox overhaul - Part 3 A fantastic resource, not only a proper 'how to' set of videos but also an excellent example of the careful methodical approach this job requires. Chapters: 00:00 Introduction 04:13 Gearbox teardown 15:09 Gear stick(s) 21:15 Gearbox rebuild The bulk of the parts were ordered from PA Blanchard, most of the rest from Series Parts Ltd. Both provided excellent service. The replacement upgraded bronze bush was bought from here: https://www.hnjengineering.co.uk/page...
