🎷 How does saxophone tuning work? The saxophone is a transposing instrument, meaning the written note is not the actual note that sounds. Alto and baritone saxophones are tuned to Eb (E flat). Tenor and soprano saxophones are tuned to Bb (B flat). 👉 To sound like a real C (Piano C): On the tenor and soprano saxophones (Bb), we must play D (1 tone higher). On the alto and baritone saxophones (Eb), we must play A (1 and a half tones lower). 🔹 In summary: The C on the piano is D on the tenor and soprano saxophones. The C on the piano is A on the alto and baritone saxophones.
