The Soprano Saxophone – Getting to Know the Instrument In this video, I talk about the soprano saxophone, an instrument that can be straight or curved, and share some of the main influences I've had throughout my journey with this saxophone. The soprano saxophone emerged in the 1840s and was created by Adolphe Sax. One of its first great exponents was Sidney Bechet, who stood out in the early 20th century, immortalizing the instrument in classics such as Summertime and Petite Fleur (1952). My biggest influences on the soprano saxophone are: John Coltrane, James Carter, Branford Marsalis, Leo Gandelman, Mauro Senise, Carlos Malta, Kenny G, Eric Marienthal, and Dave Koz. He teaches at Escola da Ilha, where he teaches from kindergarten to 5th grade.
