The Semarang City Government (Pemkot) revealed that one of the obstacles to implementing the 2026 Economic Census in Semarang was the resignation of field officers due to feeling the workload was heavier than expected. Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng Pramestuti stated that this situation was one of the factors affecting the data collection achievement, which currently stands at 38 percent, falling short of the 40 percent target. "(The census) will end on August 31st. There's still plenty of time, but Semarang City must catch up. Because the target hasn't reached 40 percent. We're only at 38 percent," Agustina told Tribun Jateng on Tuesday (July 14, 2026). According to her, there were several obstacles faced by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) officers during the data collection process. In addition to public resistance due to misconceptions about tax matters, there were also challenges with access to industrial and residential areas. Agustina also revealed that some census officers chose to resign midway through the census. "Another obstacle is that some BPS officers, when they go out into the community, give up, resign, or quit. They feel, 'Oh, this is too hard, it's not what I imagined,' and so on. What was previously conveyed is that there will be a swift replacement process for these officers on July 18th," he explained. He said that coordination with regional governments will also be strengthened to minimize obstacles in the field.
