Loud and proud, he opens the show proclaiming it's "the last week in August". But it isn't! It really, really, absolutely, definitively isn't! It's the last Sunday BEFORE August and the writing on my cassette tape (written straight after the show ended) confirms this. When I had the fun and privilege of working alongside Simon many years later at LBC, I asked him about this and other "interesting moments" that he'd given us over the years. His response? A shrug of the shoulders, a twinkle in the eye and to say: "...better to be remembered for something!" Mind you, he was astonished when I could play him this recording in front of everyone in the production office. He had no idea how many of us had taped his chart shows over the years... and kept them! I teased him: "Simon... you've always been a big part of my life...!" :) *The Official Charts Company wrongly lists this chart as representing: 23 July 1978 - 29 July 1978: https://www.officialcharts.com/charts... This is because the Official Charts data doesn't take into account that the chart was published every TUESDAY (not on Sundays) during the 1970s. In fact, new charts were not announced on a Sunday until 1987: https://thechartshows.fandom.com/wiki... This programme was captured on my Akai GXC-40T stereo cassette-receiver onto the B-side of an EMI Standard C-120 cassette.
