When Germany invaded Norway on April 9, 1940, a squadron of the German Navy, the Kriegsmarine, entered the Oslo Fjord unaware that it was heading for one of the country's most heavily defended channels, in this case by the batteries of Oscarborg Fort. Against all odds, the heavy cruiser Blücher would be illuminated by the enclave's searchlights, before being hammered by the Norwegian Army's coastal guns and three torpedo tunnels that would destroy one of the best German surface ships of World War II.
