Coronation Street Set Tour, Manchester - Review
Coronation Street is a world famous, British serial drama created by Granada Television and shown on UK ITV since 1960. It is also syndicated worldwide. The programme centres around "Coronation Street": a cobbled, terraced street in "Weatherfield" a fictional Northern English town. The production is filmed in a purpose-built studios and external set complex near Manchester's Media City, constructed in 2013. At weekends there is the opportunity for limited numbers of the public to take a paid tour of the external filming sets. In May 2022 I was invited to a tour... so this video is a record of what I found and a review of my tour. Spoiler alert, I thought the tour was fantastic - 10/10 Link to "Coronation Street - The Tour " company : https://www.coronationstreettour.co.uk/ Originally broadcast twice weekly from 1960, Coronation Street began airing six times a week in 2017. The series was conceived by scriptwriter Tony Warren in 1959. it was first broadcast in the UK on 09/12/1960 , and the show has since become a significant part of British culture. Coronation Street today is made by ITV Granada at Manchester's MediaCityUK and shown in all ITV regions, as well as internationally. In 2010, it became the world's longest-running television soap opera. Initially influenced by the conventions of kitchen sink realism, Coronation Street is noted for its depiction of a down-to-earth, working-class community, combined with light-hearted humour and strong characters. The show currently averages around six million viewers per episode. The show premiered its 10,000th episode on 7 February 2020, and celebrated its 60th anniversary later that year, which included a visit by Queen Elizabeth II. The ITV Media City studios and set was purpose built in 2013 for the production of Coronation Street. During the week it is a busy film studio, but at the weekend it is open for pre-booked tours of the exterior sets. Offering limited numbers of the public the opportunity to visit iconic set buildings, such as "The Rover's Return", the most famous fictional Pub in the world.
