Date: Sep 16 th 2019 Location: Suswaralakshmi Foundation For Classical Music and Performing Arts. Occasion: 103 rd Birth Anniversary of the “Queen of Music” M.S.Subbulakshmi On this auspicious day of the 103 rd Birth Anniversary of my Great Grandmother Bharat Ratna M.S.Subbulakshmi, my sister S Saundarya & I dedicate to her memory a song which she loved so profoundly - “ Narayana Ninna Namada Smaraneya”, a composition of the celebrated Pitamaha of Carnatic Music - Purandaradasa. Set to the ragam – Shuddha Dhanyasi, this song was taught to my Great Grandmother and Grandmother Dr Radha Viswanathan by Vidushi Smt Seethalakshmi Venkatesan. Reminiscences of learning this song from my Grandmother Radha flood my mind as she taught me as only she could teach. Having sung together with her mother for 50 years, she was the quintessence of the “MS Music & Magic”. Perfectionist to the core, she would polish sangathi after sangathi while teaching me with such forbearance. To say that I was fortunate would be an understatement. Indeed I was blessed to learn from her. “Narayana” was one of the songs which used to be a hugely popular “request” from the mammoth audience at their concerts at Rama Seva Mandali (Fort High School Grounds - Chamarajpet - Bangalore) along with “Jagadhodharana” and “Dasana Madiko” Recorded at : Prabhat Studios Videography : Shreedhar Mechri Narayana Ninna Namada Ragam: Shuddha Dhanyasi (22nd Melakartha Janyam) ARO: S G2 M1 P N2 P S || AVA: S N2 P M1 G2 S || Talam: Khanda Chapu Composer: Purandara Dasa Pallavi: ನಾರಾಯಣ ನಿನ್ನ ನಾಮದ ಸ್ಮರಣೆಯ ಸಾರಾಮೃತವು ಎನ್ನ ನಾಲಿಗೆಗೆ ಬರಲಿ || nArAyaNa ninna nAmada smaraNeya sArAmRtavu enna nAligege barali || Meaning O nArAyaNa!
