Inside Rural Cottages on a Rainy Day | A Quiet Look at Everyday Life in the Past
Today I’m taking you back to the Ulster Folk Museum in Belfast for a slower, more atmospheric visit. This time exploring a selection of traditional rural cottages. This video was requested by many of you after my previous visit, and it turned out to be a very different experience. Filmed on a day of heavy rain, the cottages felt darker, quieter, and perhaps a little closer to how they might have been experienced in everyday life. In this video we step inside four historic rural buildings: • Coshkib Hill Farm (County Antrim) • Corradreenan Farmhouse (County Fermanagh) • Pound Forge (County Antrim) • Cruckaclady Farmhouse (County Tyrone) These original buildings, carefully preserved and reconstructed at the Ulster Folk Museum, offer a glimpse into everyday rural life in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries, from open hearth cooking and shared living spaces to farming, family life and the realities of living and working in the countryside. Filmed as a relaxed, rainy day visit, this video focuses on the atmosphere of these homes as much as their history, a quieter look at how ordinary people lived in the past. As always, I’d love to know which cottage was your favourite. Thank you for watching and for all your suggestions, they really do shape these visits and the channel.
