Last week we studied James 3:1-12 where James specifically addresses wisdom in our speech, as speech is deeply connected to what’s in our heart. We discussed the immense power and hypocrisy of our words through James’ vivid imagery, revealing that maturity in faith is visible through wise speech. This week, we open to James 3:13-18, where James lays out the one crucial ingredient that ties this all together—wisdom. Our actions and our words must be exercised with wisdom. Our passage presents the contrast between earthly wisdom and wisdom that comes from above, a dialogue that will frame for us the habit of cultivating true wisdom.
