SANDY & LUNA 100 DAY OLD EAGLES SHOW DETERMINATION, PERSISTENCE & SKILL CHASING SHADOW TO CLAIM FISH

Sandy & Luna have hit the 100 day old mark and continue to learn new skills each day. Hard to believe that they were 3 ounce little eaglets hatching totally vulnerable & dependent on Jackie & Shadow to survive. Now they are fully grown flighted juveniles that are ready to embark on their journey soon. They are still dependent on Shadow for food but the skills they are learning during this time will help them survive in the wild. During the next few weeks and months, Sandy & Luna will learn independently to hunt by trial & error, guided by instinct. During this time, they primarily scavenge & steal from others (kleptoparasitism) while developing flight skills needed to catch live prey. They will observe other raptors catching fish & prey and they will follow them just like they have with Shadow. They will use the skills of stealing to grab food and fly off with it & eat it safely in a tree. They will practice getting their own fish and other prey and in time will be successful. But as opportunistic eagles, they will always steal food if the opportunity presents itself even as adults! In the video, Sandy is on the LS and Luna on the CS when they see Shadow flying to the nest with a fish in his talons. Sandy flies off first squeeing loudly then Luna. Sandy reaches the nest first and claims the fish and mantles it. Sandy will eat the fish - Luna gets a small bite at the end. Shadow delivers fish #2 and they both fly into the nest chasing him again - only this time Luna gets the fish and claims it. Luna eats this fish and also has to protect it from Sandy's steal attempts! They have two tug o-fish episodes - Sandy pulls on a stringy long piece and so does Luna - Lady and the Tramp moment. Then a 2nd tug -o fish and Sandy gets a small piece. Luna finishes the fish! They retire to the front porch and share beakies ♥ Fierce raptors at meals but peaceful siblings afterwards.
