Jaws: Enhanced Edition (NES) Playthrough

A playthrough of Limited Run Games' 2026 license-based action game for the NES, Jaws: Enhanced Edition. Back in February, LRG released Jaws: Retro Edition (on Steam, Switch, and PS5) which included the 1987 NES game (   • Jaws (NES) Playthrough  ) and this new "Enhanced Edition" presented alongside a few pieces of promotional art and a music player. Jaws EE is an expanded take on the original game's concept. Built on top of the NES game, it features a campaign that's split into four phases, each corresponding to one of the films: 0:14 Phase 1 (Jaws) 14:06 Phase 2 (Jaws 2) 33:25 Phase 3 (Jaws 3-D) 1:05:53 Phase 4 (Jaws: The Revenge) The NES game's light RPG elements have been fleshed out to build a robust narrative-driven adventure, complete with NPC interactions, stat-based progression, upgradeable equipment, and a password system. It also introduces new enemies, tweaks the behaviors of the old ones, and tosses a few new items and weapons into the mix. I didn't expect much from it - translation patches aside, fan-made rom hacks don't generally appeal to me - but Jaws EE left me thoroughly impressed. It's a natural evolution of the original's design that would've felt fresh and contemporary had it been released on a cartridge in the late 80s, and it's a game that would've been completely feasible at the time from a technical standpoint. It wasn't built in a modern engine to masquerade as a retro title: it is a legit NES game that runs on an emulator via a launcher, and if you extract the 192K (1.5 megabit) rom from the game files, you can run it on real NES hardware. (The size of the rom highlights how much work was done here. The original game was just 64K!) It's excellent work, and it's a game that I'm glad to have supported by buying it on Steam. I had a blast with it, and I felt that the end product completely justified the price tag. _____________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
