Game: Castlevania: Rondo of Blood System: Turbografx CD/PC Engine CD Version: (JP) English Patched This is a longplay of the game Akumajo Dracula X: Chi no Rondo*, known in the West as *Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. It is an action-platformer developed and published by Konami, originally released for the PC Engine CD in 1993 exclusively in Japan. The game's story centers on Richter Belmont, whose journey as a vampire hunter begins in 1792, the year the priest Shaft performs a ritual to resurrect Count Dracula once again. The 19-year-old is a descendant of the Belmont clan and the heir to the "Vampire Killer" whip—a powerful weapon wielded solely by clan members to thwart the threat posed by Count Dracula. Richter storms Dracula's castle in search of his fiancée, Annette, who has been abducted by the Count himself. Along the way, Richter encounters other women kidnapped by Dracula and his minions, including Maria Renard, a 12-year-old girl with mystical powers. Players control Richter, who must traverse levels and defeat dangerous enemies and bosses before his final confrontation with Count Dracula. To attack, Richter uses the Vampire Killer whip as well as sub-weapons—such as the dagger, axe, bible, holy water, stopwatch, and cross. These sub-weapons consume hearts to perform either standard attacks or devastating special moves unique to each weapon. Maria is also a playable character in every chapter (except the prologue); while she shares similar mechanics with Richter, she attacks by launching birds at a distance, uses different sub-weapons, and possesses a double-jump ability. It is also worth noting that the game features multiple branching paths that lead to different stages. The graphics are excellent, the voiced cutscenes flesh out the plot, and the soundtrack is of superb quality. It is an outstanding game in every respect. Much of this is due to the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 CD-ROM drive, which managed to elevate the level of game quality seen in earlier titles—such as Super Castlevania IV—to a whole new tier. While the console's standard hardware wasn't particularly advanced compared to its contemporaries, the use of CD technology allowed for much more detailed animations in the CD versions of its games. The video was created by covering every path in the game across four playthroughs: two with Richter and two with Maria. I hope you enjoy the video.
