An official from ANESA (the Chilean National Airport System Supervisory Authority) of the DGAC (Chilean Civil Aviation Authority) warns of risks at Chilean airports due to multiple deficiencies, according to an internal report from the agency. Problems detected include rubber on runways, cracks, deteriorated joints, lack of signage, and malfunctioning lights, among others. Affected airports include those in Santiago, Arica, and Punta Arenas. A union leader denounces a lack of resources to address problems such as the theft of PAPI (Pilot Assault Pilot Information System) devices that guide pilots during landings, and delays in public tenders.
