Red-tailed Hawk Chick P2 Dances Along Nest Railing Before Fledging Out Of Frame | June 23, 2026

P2 has fledged! After 50 days in the nest, the young hawk took its first flight on June 23. Watch P2 scale the railing of the nest platform with ease after giving the cam one more close up as a nestling. The young hawk then scoots to the west edge of the nest and takes flight out of frame. The fledgling was later spotted exploring campus with P1. Safe travels, P2! There's a good chance we'll see P2 again. Cornell Hawks fledglings often return to the nest site in the days following their first flights, especially while younger siblings are still present. They have made use of two different light towers for their nest sites. In 2012, 2015, and 2018–2023 they used a tower near Fernow Hall, and in 2013, 2014, and 2016, they used the tower nearest Weill Hall.
