Having dedicated his life to medicine and the well-being of the people, Dr. Marcelino Vélez Santana was an accomplished physician. In fact, at the time of the event, he was approximately 40 years old. His stance was that of an anti-Trujillo supporter, which is why, since he was young, he had been part of one of the many cells that were against General Trujillo's government. However, his actions never earned him any repression from the government, but all that would soon change.
