Wird Rinteln zum Lost Place? Alte Gebäude an der Weser sehen so aus. Was ist hier so schön? Dr See?
On our grand Weser River tour, we mustn't forget Rinteln. A small town tucked away at the edge of Lower Saxony. Beyond the fence of OI Glas lies North Rhine-Westphalia. Here, the Weser River once again serves as the border between two federal states. A lovely hidden gem. • COOL THE BEST Rinteln is a town and independent municipality in northern Germany, located in the Weser Uplands on the Weser River in the Schaumburg district of Lower Saxony. The well-preserved old town is still characterized by numerous valuable half-timbered houses. In the Middle Ages, a town wall surrounded the town, and its expansion in the modern era transformed it into the Rinteln Fortress. From 1619 to 1810, the University of Rinteln was located in the town. Rinteln was the district capital until 1977, first of the Rinteln district until 1904, and from 1904 onwards of the County of Schaumburg district. Rinteln Geography Location Rinteln is nestled to the south by the hills of the Lippe Uplands, to the north by the Weser Hills, and to the east by the Süntel and Fischbeck Hills. The town is part of the Weserbergland Schaumburg-Hameln Nature Park. The "Rinteln Basin" is dominated by Schaumburg Castle, perched atop the approximately 225-meter-high Nesselberg (the southern spur of the Weser Hills), a prominent landmark visible from afar. About 12.5 km (as the crow flies) northwest of the Rinteln Weser Bridge, the Weser River cuts through the Westphalian Gate at Porta Westfalica, entering the North German Plain. This striking incision between the eastern Weser Hills and the western Wiehen Hills is visible from the Rinteln Weser Bridge, as are Schaumburg Castle and the entire Weser Hills range up to the Süntel. The Doktorsee (Doctor's Lake) lies about two kilometers west of the old town. City Structure In addition to the main town, the city comprises 18 other districts: Ahe with Großer and Kleiner Neelhof Deckbergen Engern Exten with Kehl Friedrichswald Goldbeck with Klein Goldbeck and Neu Goldbeck Hohenrode Kohlenstädt Krankenhagen with Friedrichshöhe, Nottberg, and Strüvensiek Möllenbeck with Ellerburg and Hessendorf Schaumburg with the Koverden estate, Ostendorf, Paschenburg, and Rosenthal Steinbergen with Arensburg Castle Strücken with Saarbeck Uchtdorf with Taubenberg Forestry House Todenmann with Dankersen Estate Volksen with Weseberg Wennenkamp with Passenstein Westendorf with Echtringhausen Estate and Westendorfer Landwehr These are grouped into ten local councils: Ahe-Engern-Kohlenstädt, Deckbergen-Schaumburg-Westendorf, Exten, Hohenrode-Strücken, Krankenhagen-Volksen, Möllenbeck, Rinteln, Steinbergen, Taubenberg (Friedrichswald, Goldbeck, Uchtdorf, Wennenkamp), Todenmann. Cool the Best • COOL THE BEST The Exter is a 26.1 km[2] long, orographically left (or southern) tributary of the Weser River in the Lippe district of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Schaumburg district of Lower Saxony (Germany). It gave its name to the municipality of Extertal, newly founded in 1969, whose area corresponds to a large part of its approximately 108.7 km² catchment area. Name The Exter River was first mentioned in writing in 1328 (Eckerste), and the village of Exter as early as 896 (Achriste). The name consists of the Germanic word *akra- (='driving') and the suffix -ista-. The suffix can either represent a kind of superlative or denote a spot on the river where a particular "driving force" existed.[5] Course The Exter originates in the eastern part of the Lippe district in the Teutoburg Forest/Egge Hills Nature Park. Its source lies in the municipality of Barntrup, about 1 km west-southwest of the center of the northern district of Alverdissen, in agricultural land at an elevation of 279 m above sea level. Directly below its source, the Exter flows through a small pond before continuing eastward to and through Alverdissen. There, it flows through three ponds; the two lower ones are called Menteteich and Torteich.
