Besigye has insisted on having his own lawyers as stipulated in article 28 (3)(d) of the 1995 constitution, rather than being represented by state Lawyers as ordered by Justice Baguma in the next court proceedings. In the last two court proceedings, Col Besigye and his co-accused Hajji Obeid Lutale have been representing themselves, as they reported to court that the absence of their own lawyers is accessioned by the state.
