Increasing the Thickness of a Rimmed Case
One issue with converting modern cases to be used as parent cases for old black powder cartridges is the thickness of the rim. In the past I've used two methods to increase it. The use of a rubber O ring isn't ideal since it doesn't provide a positive surface for the extractor to grab. The second, manually hammering the rim thicker is an extremely slow process. I experimented to see if the lathe can be used to fold the existing rims forward, increasing their thickness. It's possible, but the set up I used wasn't the best. I add a new chuck to my lathe and take steps towards making the process easily repeatable.
