BRAND NEW BYD B12s now on Route 491! Goodbye Enviro200s (London Bus Changes Explained)

New BYD eBus B12s have entered service on London bus route 491. These new electric buses are replacing diesel Enviro200s, shown at 2:20. BYD B12s are now used on Arriva routes 166 and 312 and Metroline routes 268 and 491. Routes 95 and P13 will use B12s in the future. These BYD B12s feature Metroline's high spec interior. Including USB sockets, high back seats, digital iBus screens and different priority seats. Route 491 runs between Waltham Cross and North Middlesex Hospital. The route runs every 20 minutes on all days of the week, from 06:00 until 00:55. The 491 is around 9 miles (15 km) long, with a full journey taking 40 to 90 minutes. Metroline operates the 491 from Potters Bar (PB) garage. Nine single deck buses are allocated to the route. The 491 has multiple purposes; It is the only route connecting North Middlesex Hospital with Edmonton. It also connects the Enfield Island Village with Waltham Cross and Brimsdown, And is the only bus service around Innova Park and in some areas of Brimsdown. The 491 has become the fourth TfL bus route to use BYD B12s. B12s first entered service on the 312 on the 2nd of March 2026. With the 166 and 312 at South Croydon garage now being close to full electric operation. Metroline's first B12s entered service on the 268, replacing GB Kites. Unlike Arriva's B12s, Metroline's BELs are 10.4m long. The 491 currently uses multiple types of ADL Enviro200s. Including ex-First 9.6m Enviro200s from 2011, coded "DEM", And 9.6m and 10.2m Enviro200s from 2010 to 2012, coded "DE" and "DEM". DEMs from 2012 will stay at Potters Bar garage for routes 327 and W9. While Enviro200s from 2010 and 2011 are expected to be withdrawn from service. Route 491 serves Waltham Cross Bus Station (Hertfordshire), Arlington Crescent, Innova Park, Causeway Bridge, Canal Side Walk, Enfield Island Village, Ordanance Avenue, Bilton Way, Brimsdown Station, Lea Valley Road, Ponders End Station, Ponders End High Street, Southbury Road, Ponders End Park, Orchard Road, Edmonton Green Bus Station, Edmonton Green Police Station, Angel Corner, Silver Street Station and North Middlesex Hospital. The 491 has a double run in Enfield Island Village; Where buses serve stops twice in both directions. The 491 has two hail & ride sections. One H&R section is located between Enfield Lock and Bilton Way, And between Orchard Road and Bounces Road, near Edmonton Green. #bus #tfl #buses
