EXCAVATORS TAKE OUT FENCE AND DREDGE MILL STREAM! IN EPIC DISPLAY! LLANGOLLEN CANAL BREACH UPDATE!

Mill Stream Excavated & Fences Taken out! Llangollen Canal Breach Latest Update! Tuesday, the 7th of July 2026 So yesterday we saw the big excavator remove about 100mm of sand from the back of the field, as the level was too high! It was then moved to the dip in the field, next to the mill stream, where water had been pooling, thanks to the landscape no longer being suited to allow water to run into the mill stream. This morning, the excavator was scraping sand down from the top of the embankment in the middle of the field, as there was too much up there; instead, he was bringing it down with him and spreading it where it was needed to allow water to flow off better and into the stream. The guys from Kier came down and briefly looked at the liftbridge, discussed it among themselves and then moved on. It looks like no more of that will be done today! The guy with the GPS staff came back and started doing scans of the lift bridge to check for subsidence or ground movements after they did work on it. Then the big excavator was done with the centre embankment, so it moved onto the big pile of sand, dumped by the dumpers here last Friday. This was to fill in the dip in the field. There was plenty of sand, which was taken from the far end of the field. The excavator will now use this to contour the landscape so that water runs better into the stream. He started by making a bank to the mill stream, and then the small excavator came down and first started by taking out the fence, which is the boundary between the farmer's field and the country park opposite! Why? Because they needed to dredge the mill stream again and remove a lot of the sand that had gathered on that side of the culvert, and the big excavator could do with the extra sand, as he was going through it pretty quickly!
