There is a sound that is older than any of the names we have given ourselves. Before the borders and the flags and the long list of reasons we came up with to believe we were different from each other, there was a hand and there was a stretched skin and there was the simple human need to make the night less quiet. The drum did not care which continent it was on. It still does not. This mix is built on that idea. The pipes of the north and the drums of the south were never supposed to be strangers. They came from the same impulse. They are answering the same question. When you put a bodhrán next to a djembe and let them find each other, the thing that happens is not a novelty or a fusion experiment. It is a memory. It is two halves of something recognizing each other after a very long time apart. You do not need to know anything about either tradition to feel it. The body knows what to do with a rhythm like this before the mind has caught up. Something in the chest answers before you have decided whether you want it to. That is the whole point of music like this. It works underneath you. Put it on loud.
