Jaguar E-Type - 1966 OTS Roadster - An Originality TIME CAPSULE!
Today we are celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the E-Type's initial release with an introduction to a very special E-Type that we acquired last Fall. This is a 1966 Jaguar E-Type OTS (Open Two-Seater) - known in the US as an XKE Roadster. It is truly "the best of the breed" - and a rock solid example of an ALL ORIGINAL AND UNRESTORED Series 1 E-Type. With the 4.2-liter engine, full-synchro close-ratio gearbox, improved braking, more comfortable seats, and better charging system, this is as good as it gets! But wait - there's more! Because the car was originally delivered to Germany, it also has a special order high-speed 2.88 rear end ratio! But what REALLY makes this one EXTRA special is the fact that it was driven - and lovingly cared for - for only its first 5 years - from new in 1966, to it's "retirement" in 1971... It spent the first 6 years of this retirement in the original owner's father's barn, but was then placed INSIDE the original owners house for the next 44 years! As a result, this E-Type is an originality GOLD MINE! The car is 99.9% as it left the factory, with only very minor items like spark plugs and other ignition components, tires, and wiper blades ever replaced. AND - due to 44 years of climate control, the condition of all components is very, very good! This Introduction video takes a look at the car - AS FOUND - including video footage of the first time the car saw the sunlight in 44 (and only the second time in 50...) years! We discuss the history of the car, and take a look at the current condition before we start the clean-up later this Spring. Come along for the ride as we clean up the car and gently coax it back to life - WITHOUT RESTORING IT - to preserve all of this amazing originality!
