Rising water levels in the Umngot River, landslides, and disrupted connectivity have prompted authorities to issue an alert and advise tourists against visiting the area. Continuous heavy rainfall has severely impacted Meghalaya, particularly the popular tourist destination of Dawki, known worldwide for the crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River. The region is witnessing a critical situation as incessant rain has caused a sharp rise in the river's water level, leading to concerns over flooding and public safety. Landslides triggered by the downpour have disrupted connectivity along the India-Bangladesh border, while transportation services in several areas have been affected. In view of the worsening conditions, local authorities have urged tourists to avoid traveling to Dawki until the situation improves. According to weather officials, more than 500 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the last 24 hours in parts of Meghalaya. The administration is continuously monitoring the situation and has issued a weather alert until June 25, warning residents and visitors to remain cautious.
