Robert Eggers is back with Werwulf, and the first trailer looks like it’s doing for werewolves what Nosferatu did for vampires. In this trailer breakdown, I look at the clues, folklore, possible easter eggs, Nosferatu connections, Universal Monster comparisons, the hidden creature, the strange ritual imagery, and why Werwulf may be much more than a standard werewolf movie. Rather than treating the werewolf as a modern monster, Eggers seems to be dragging it back into old-world fear, superstition, religion, blood, fire and damnation.
