Iona National Park Angola 2024

Rod and I began our journey through Angola in the Iona National Park. I was not that keen on Angola as a whole due to the challenges of finding recent information about camping etc in Angola but man was I wrong. We experienced stunning landscapes within the Iona National Park - the vast fields of welwitschia plants and stunning mountains. We camped the first night with Anne & Andre & Elise & Eckhard, the second night next to a dry river bed and the third night at the campsite just outside of Esphinera which is set in a beautiful cave - one could imagine that it has been inhabited for thousands of years. We learned from Maria the vet about the critical work African Parks is undergoing to not only restock the park with wild animals but to educate the local people about the value tourism will bring in years to come and also the work they are doing to vaccinate the local livestock to protect the wild animals that are being introduced.
