Truffe agli anziani con la tecnica del falso sinistro, sei arresti

Six Arrests for Fraudulent Elderly A gang specializing in scamming the elderly has been dismantled. Six people were arrested by the State Police following an investigation coordinated by the Nola Prosecutor's Office. According to investigators, the group carried out dozens of scams throughout Italy, managing to defraud victims of approximately €500,000. The organization, based in the Naples area, used the technique of fake car accidents. Over the phone, a self-styled marshal would inform the elderly person that a family member had caused a serious accident with an uninsured car. In some cases, to increase the psychological pressure, the suspect was told that among the injured was a child or a pregnant woman whose life was in danger. At that point, the demand for money or jewelry would arise, presented as the only way to avoid arrest for the relative involved. The victims, all between the ages of 74 and 97, were kept on the phone for over an hour, with constant calls to both landlines and cell phones, preventing them from contacting family members or asking for help. Investigations by the Naples Flying Squad allowed them to reconstruct the system used by the gang and execute six arrest warrants.
