Saigo Shiro, a Meiji-era judoka who was the model for Sugata Sanshiro, grew up in Aga Town. He was adopted by Saigo Tanomo and became the heir to the Saigo family. Despite his small stature, Shiro Saigo rose to fame in the judo world with his Yamaarashi technique. He always said he didn't want to end up as just another judoka. We visited his eventful life and his monument in Aga Town.
