Conwy Castle, a Magnificent medieval fortress & a walk to seaside at Llandudno, Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Earlier this year we booked a small cottage within the walls of the historic town of Conwy. Sitting alongside the estuary of the river Conwy it is dominated by its amazing castle and a planned town surrounded by powerful walls. One of Edward I ring of castles built in the 1280`s this is the most imposing fortress in North Wales. The views from the battlements is wonderful. We wander across the bridge built in 1826 by the famous engineer Thomas Telford. Its castle like towers blend in almost seamlessly with the adjacent castle. It was one of the first road suspension bridges in the World. The World`s first road suspension was the nearby Menai Bridge carrying the road over the Menai straight from the mainland to Anglesey. This carried traffic towards the ferries to Dublin. We enjoyed a walk along the right bank of the Conwy river to the edge of the Great Orme that dominates the seaside resort of Llandudno. Ivor posed with Tweedle Dumb and Tweedle Dee, two characters who appear in Lewis Carroll`s 1871 book of Through the Looking Glass and what Alice found there. Many of Lewis Carroll`s characters feature at locations through the town in celebration of his connection here. His Alice in Wonderland adventures were inspired by Alice Liddell who holidayed here.
