世界遺産、白川郷・五箇山 合掌造り集落を撮る|Mamiya RZ67

I visited three gassho-zukuri (steep thatched-roof) villages where Japan's traditional rural landscape still lives on. People continue to live in these thatched houses today, and their daily lives sustain the beauty of the scenery. In 1995, the three villages were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list as the "Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama." While they share the same World Heritage status, each village has its own distinct character and charm. For this shoot, I used the medium format film camera Mamiya RZ67 with Kodak GOLD 200. Please enjoy Japan's timeless countryside in the soft colors and rich tonality that only film can offer. ■ Shirakawa-go (Shirakawa Village, Gifu Prefecture) The largest gassho-zukuri village in Japan and the icon of this World Heritage site. Its steep thatched roofs were born of the need to withstand heavy snowfall, and many residents still live here today. Visitors from around the world come to see its beautiful scenery throughout the four seasons. ■ Suganuma Gassho Village (Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture) A small, quiet village of just nine gassho-style houses nestled close together. Surrounded by the Sho River and deep mountains, the landscape feels as if time has stood still. Though a tourist destination, a calm atmosphere prevails, allowing you to slowly savor Japan's original rural scenery. ■ Ainokura Gassho Village (Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture) About twenty gassho-style houses remain on a mountain terrace, where residents' everyday life continues to this day. From the observation point, you can take in a full view of the village. Highlights include the "upside-down gassho" reflected in the rice paddies and the harmony with mountains that change expression with each season. Three villages, each different in history and scale, captured on film. Please enjoy until the end.
