Siren Information: Type: Thunderbolt model 1003 Manufactured: 1963 by Federal Sign & Signal Installed: 1963 (Originally located on a water tower according to the Fire Chief) Blower: 4M (suspected to have had a 5M originally) Rotator RPM: 2 Chopper level: 4 Port ratio: 5/6 Date: July 4th, 2026 Location: Lake Bluff Fire & Police Department Testing: 4th of July at 10AM to start the local parade, sometimes on first Tuesday at 10. Cycle: Whatever the fire department feels like Noteworthy details: This siren was technically replaced by the nearby 2001-130 but it's kept running as a backup siren in case there is a problem with the 2001. It is controlled manually by an AF timer in the fire station. Even though I said I wouldn't return to Lake Bluff, I decided to go this year because a bunch of people were planning on showing up. What I didn't expect was this thing to sound in hi-lo, much less an attempted alternate wail. The person who set the siren off told us that he had trouble getting the test button to work, hence the 'drunken' hi-lo and attack signal combination. Regardless, it was pretty cool.
