Federal Enterprises Thunderbolt 1000T Siren Test - Evanston, IL - 7/2/2019
This video is a 2024 remaster of a video originally filmed on July 2nd, 2019. **This siren was replaced by a 2001-130 in June of 2020.** Siren Information: Type: Thunderbolt model 1000T Manufactured: 1954 by Federal Enterprises Installed: April 1954, refurbished and re-installed in the late 1980's Blower: 6M (Reverse-Wired) Rotator RPM: 4 Chopper level: 3 Port ratio: 5/6 (Originally single-tone 5) Location: Evanston Fire and Police department HQ, 1454 Elmwood Avenue, Evanston, Illinois. City Designation: Emergency Siren #3 Testing: First Tuesday of every month at 10:00 AM Cycle: 1-minute alert Technical info: Sirens Heard: Thunderbolt 1000T (220 ft), Whelen 2905 (0.5 mi) Main camera: Sony RX100II Secondary camera: Samsung Galaxy S10 Smartphone integrated cameras Recording distance: 220 feet Date: July 2nd, 2019 *Original Description* Well finally somebody recorded this! This ended up being the exact opposite of what I expected. I expected a normal thunderbolt 1000, but instead I got a reverse wired 1000T! I was pretty shocked when I heard it, as I wasn't expecting it at all. The blower was pretty darn loud, and when the horn pointed away from me, the Blower was even louder than the siren itself! It was pretty punchy, but it is pretty quiet compared to a normal-Wired A1 thunderbolt 1000T. Also, I would like to note that this is a very risky siren to record, as it is right on top of the police station. 2 police officers drove my me looking rather concerned and curious as to what I was up to, but thankfully there was no trouble. Shoutout to them for that one! I'm glad all of Evanston's sirens were recorded before they were taken down. This siren was originally fitted with a single-tone chopper. In 2017, the chopper was swapped with a dual-toned chopper, which effectively converted this siren from a Thunderbolt 1000 to a Thunderbolt 1000T.
