Lekki language: Lekki (also known as Laki) is an Iranian language spoken mainly in western Iran, especially in the provinces of Lorestan, Kermanshah, Ilam, and Hamedan, as well as among Lekki communities outside Iran. It belongs to the northwestern branch of Iranian languages and exhibits deep historical layers that connect it to ancient Iranian languages, with striking similarities to Middle Iranian Pahlavi, indicating the long persistence of the Lek people in the Iranian plateau. While Lekki shares many features due to centuries of contact with neighboring Kurdish and Lori varieties, it retains its distinct phonetics, vocabulary, and grammatical structure. The language is traditionally transmitted orally and remains a vital medium for poetry, folklore, and collective memory among Lek communities, both within Iran and in diaspora populations in Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Dagestan (Russia). The Delfani variety of Laki is spoken broadly across the Lak community and serves as a unifying dialect within the tribe. Regarded as one of the oldest Laki dialects, it is centered in the Delfan region, with Noorabad recognized as its central city. Laki people and culture: The Laki people are considered to be one of the original Iranian tribes, which are historically related to the ancient Kasians and their political authority is one of the first known governments in the region. Throughout Iran's history, the Lak tribe has played an important political and cultural role, with early institutions such as the Kasian, Elipi, and Ekudu states, and later the Zand dynasty in the Islamic era, founded by Karim Khan Zand of the Zand tribe. Today, the Lak population is concentrated in the west of Iran, especially in Lorestan, Kermanshah, Ilam, and Hamedan, and the Lak-inhabited areas in these provinces are called Lakstan, while the historical exile and migration in periods such as the Sassanid era and the Nadir Shah Afshar, Qajar and Pahlavi periods have caused them to disperse in the northern regions, Gilan, Mazandaran and Qazvin. Shiraz, West Azerbaijan and smaller communities in Khuzestan. Outside of Iran, there are significant Lek communities in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, as well as in Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and parts of Dagestan.
