Swiss Schynige Platte Railway & Grindelwald's Firstbahn SPB BOB 1968

This electric hauled Berner Oberland-Bahnen route connects Wilderswil, near Interlaken, with the famous wildflower gardens of the Schynige Platte along 7km of 80cm narrow-gauge track, climbing 25% gradient Riggenbach rack. The upper station has hiking paths to access nearby valleys. Adjacent Grindelwald is accessed by First Bahn, which was Europe's longest chairlift. This film captures it's Ludwig von Roll’schen Eisenwerke pioneer designed, unique 1947 vintage switching sideways chairlift, which in 1991 was replaced by a modern gondola. This original 8mm cine film captures the Swiss summer tourism scene in 1968. It is accompanied by Paul Russenberger's voiced narration from 1999.
