Triangle man able to locate all family members in Venezuela after catastrophic earthquakes

Venezuela has recently experienced a devastating hit from two powerful earthquakes registering magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5. These earthquakes, the most intense in over a century, have resulted in the tragic loss of at least 164 lives and left almost 1,000 injured, with the numbers anticipated to increase as search and rescue efforts continue. The destruction is most evident in the coastal region of Laguira, north of the capital city, Caracas, where numerous buildings have collapsed and homes have been leveled. Carlos Benuche, a Triangle resident with family in Venezuela, expressed his relief at finally being able to contact his missing family member amidst the chaos, yet he acknowledged that many are still awaiting news of their loved ones. Benuche, who has been living in the U.S. for five years, shared his anguish over the devastation facing his homeland, emphasizing that the areas affected were already struggling due to weak infrastructure and ongoing crises, including political and economic instability. As communities begin to grapple with the aftermath, local organizations are mobilizing efforts to collect resources and aid for those impacted. Benuche, now a coordinator for a Venezuelan organization, stated that they are actively working on strategies to deliver support back home.
