Java Programming Best Practices - by Ken Fogel

For over 20 years, Ken exclusively taught two final-year courses at Dawson College that focused on professional coding. In the fall, these final-year students developed a desktop application, and in the winter, they formed teams of four to create an e-commerce application. The warm-up assignment given to students at the beginning of the final year often turned out to be a disaster. Everyone’s code worked, yet the most common grade was a ZERO. In this presentation, Ken will examine what his students— and possibly you—are doing that could be improved. He will discuss the practices necessary to ensure that your code works, adheres to professional standards, and can be maintained after you leave the company. Whether you are a new developer or a senior developer considering teaching, you should find the session informative. Be warned: Ken is not always serious, so be prepared to smile or even laugh from time to time (crying may also occur).
