Black Velvet - How to Make it and Why it's the Right Drink to Mourn Queen Elizabeth

Today on The Blind Pig we pay tribute to the passing of Queen Elizabeth with a Black Velvet cocktail. Ingredients: Fill half a champagne flute with Guinness(or similar stout) Layer Champage, Sparkling Wine or Proseco on top Adding Champagne, Sparkling Wine or Proseco to stout creates the Black Velvet, a cocktail that is over 160 years old. It was created by a London bartender in 1861. The country was reeling from the death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's beloved husband. The deep, dark color of the drink was meant to symbolize mourning clothes, especially those of the Queen, who wore black for the rest of her life. The Blind Pig is about craft cocktails, craft beer and good drinking stories, all done in my home bar aptly named The Blind Pig.
