Trade in goods between the European Union and the United States reached a record €875 billion last year, despite tariffs. However, behind these figures lies a considerable economic impact, especially for the German automotive industry. According to a study by the German Economic Institute, European exports to the United States grew by 7.7% to €580 billion, while US imports increased by 2.2% to €295 billion. The EU's trade surplus thus approached €285 billion. But the report warns that part of this increase is due to exports being brought forward before the new tariffs came into effect in April. European manufacturing production, on the other hand, is already feeling the effects.
