Fort Stevens State Park Oregon - A WWII Fortress Meets Stunning Pacific Beaches - Full Review

We’re Bill and Christina, and Fort Stevens State Park in northwest Oregon is an absolute gem. This historic park is the only place on the US mainland bombed by the Japanese in World War II — and you can actually walk through the Pratt Battery where it happened. Beyond the history, the beach here is stunning: fine two-toned sand, dramatic dunes, a iconic shipwreck backdrop, kite surfers, and a lighthouse view across to Cape Disappointment. We stayed two nights, splitting time between the D and F loops in the north campground. At $60/night for water and electric hookups, it’s not cheap — Oregon’s prices have climbed — but the sheer volume of activities makes it worth it. The campground is massive with 500+ sites, clean private showers, a three-lane dump station, and good water pressure. Connectivity is a challenge — limited cell service and Starlink struggled under heavy tree cover. Astoria is just 10 minutes away for groceries, restaurants, and even the Goonies House. Two thumbs up — you could spend days here without repeating a single activity. We're Christina and Bill. We travel full time, mostly in the US in our RV. At first we traveled in our self converted camper van and recently upgraded to a small class C RV. We mostly stay at state parks across the country and after realizing how different they all were in terms of booking, costs, amenities, etc., we decided to start reviewing them. At this point we've probably been to a few hundred state parks across dozens of states, so we feel we are a benchmark for US parks.
