In this SCCR Science Series session, Elaine Costa, MD, a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Otolaryngology, Head, and Neck Surgery (OHNS) provides an overview of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Here, she covers how to: 1. Identify and describe the clinical features and diagnostic criteria of OSA 2. Understand the various diagnostic tools and methods used to diagnose OSA 3. Recognize the pathophysiology and key risk factors associated with OSA 4. Assess the long-term cardiovascular risks associated with OSA 5. Evaluate the range of treatment options available for OSA About the Instructor: Dr. Elaine Costa is a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University School of Medicine in the Department of Otolaryngology. Her current research focuses on Obstructive Sleep Apnea, from diagnosis to evaluation of clinical outcomes post-surgical intervention. She earned her medical doctorate at Universidade Federal de Pernambuco and holds a master's degree in sciences from Universidade Estadual de Campinas, where she also specialized in otolaryngology. Dr. Costa has foundational research experience from Brunel University London and has honed her clinical research, project management, analytical skills and leadership in academia during her trainings over the last 12 years.
