Okushiri Island, which we visited on a car camping trip around Hokkaido, was actually an incredibly charming island that far exceeded the image of "remote island" = "hidden region." The ultimate, crystal clear blue ocean and a walk through the beech forest that covers 80% of the island. The island's strong ability to recover from the earthquake disaster, and the new energy and thoughtfulness of the new generation and friends who will carry that charm into the future.
