I thought this Scrabble game didn't matter, but it may have won me a Championship

I had done well enough at the 2024 Scrabble Players Championship to clinch a berth in the final following Round 26, so my Round 28 match against longtime expert Chris Cree didn't really matter. Other than a few rating points and some pride, I had nothing to play for. Or... so it would seem. It wasn't until after the tournament ended that I realized this game actually had a far more significant impact than I could've ever foreseen. How is that possible?
