Balnakeil Beach - Sutherland - Scotland | 4K | DJI Mini2

Sutherland is a land of picturesque mountains, highest waterfalls, but most importantly - amazing beaches. Most of the them are located near Durness - a little village at the very north of Scotland. All of them are extremely beautiful and well known: Sango Sands, Durness Beach, Sangobeg Beach, Ceannabeinne Beach and presented here Balnakeil Beach. It is probably the longest beach of the area - almost 2 miles of white sand (quite wide too), divided in the middle by grass-covered rocks. During lower tide both parts of the beach are joined and it is possible to get into cave-like formations between rocky cliffs. Balnakeil Beach is located on one side of long peninsula and walk from one side of the beach (where the car park is located) to the other side takes around half an hour. We visited this beach two times. The first time (few years ago) was not great - despite beautiful, sunny weather we spent just 30 minutes there due to terrible wind which was rising big clouds of sand and throwing it into ours uncovered legs and faces. It was quite hurtful, so we moved to Durness Beach, and despite the fact it was only a mile away, we spent there whole day without feeling any wind at all. So, do not visit Balnakeil in windy day, as it is quite exposed and it is just not pleasant. We avoided it for nearly 4 years and came back there this year, knowing that the weather will be much better - quite sunny, with very gentle wind. Thanks to that we had a chance to spend much more time on the beach and get to the end of peninsula, swim a bit and exploring cliff-face rocks and caves. All in all it became one of our favorite beaches of Scotland.
